I loved wearing makeup even before I became a makeup artist. Wearing makeup helps cover my uneven skin tone, especially areas around my nose. However, as much as I love to wear makeup, I never go to bed without taking it off no matter how tired and sleepy I am. I can’t stand the feeling of having makeup on my face when I sleep. And besides, who wants to wake up on a pillow with foundation or smudged eyeliner on it? Not me!!!

As I approach 30, I always make sure to take care of my skin, especially my face. I always believe that having moisturized and smooth skin is the secret of having gorgeous makeup, rather than hiding the flaws. When I was in the Philippines, I was often able to get  facial treatments and to visit my dermatologist. However, I now am very busy with  2 kids, and so I have learned to create my own facials!

Today, I’m sharing a beauty hack: DIY makeup remover pads. These pads use coconut oil to get rid of my makeup before I do my cleansing routine. This is a very inexpensive and effective way to remove your makeup! If you have combination skin like me,  I’ll show you how I exfoliate to do a deep cleanse of my pores using New Bioré products: Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub and Bioré Baking Soda Pore Cleanser. These new Bioré products were easy to find at Target (one of the best places to find beauty supplies!), and left my  skin feeling smooth.

Here’s what you need for DIY Makeup Remover Pads:

3 Tablespoons of Coconut Oil

1 Tablespoon Baby Shampoo

1 cup of water

Cotton Pads (about half a bag)

Small bowl

Clean jar with safety seal cover

Directions:

  1. Put the the coconut oil in a small bowl and microwave it for 30 seconds.
  2. Pour the microwaved coconut oil in the jar and mix it with the baby shampoo and water. Make sure to mix well.
  3. Put the cotton pads into the mixture and push down until they absorb the liquid.

This recipe makes enough for me to use half the pack of cotton pads. You can double the ingredients if you would like to use the whole pack. Then you’re DONE!

So let’s get  fresh and clean pores!

1 I start to take off my makeup by gently wiping my eyes and other areas to remove the makeup.

2 I splash some warm water on my face and pump the New Bioré Baking Soda Cleanser  into my hand. Then I  massage the cleanser in a circular motion around my face to get rid of the makeup residue and dirt. This cleanser gently cleans and exfoliates my skin. The feeling is fresh and soft!

3 I rinse and gently pat down my face with a towel. Beauty tip: Change your face towel often and make sure you hang your towel to let it dry to prevent bacterial growth. DIY_makeup_remover_pads_coconut_oil_deep_facial_cleansing_routine_Biore_9

4 I use the New Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub. I put it in a small bowl and add a little bit of water to activate it. I then begin to apply it all over my face, especially around my nose where there are dry patches. This powder scrub exfoliates your skin without over-scrubbing. You can customize the scrub by using more or less water depending on how deep of a clean  you need for your skin.

See how it fizzes!!! How FUN! Even my toddler got excited to see this!

5 I rinse my face with cold water and apply moisturizer right after I pat down my face with a towel.

I have become a huge fan of Bioré after using this product! Before when I heard the word “exfoliate”, I always thought of small beads that would tear into my pores., But the New Bioré Baking Soda Cleansing Scrub isn’t like that at all – it’s a powder scrub that gently exfoliates your skin, leaving your pores clean and making dry patches disappear. How cool is that!? What a wonderful new beauty innovation!
