Makeup tips before going on a date

makeup-tips-for-going-on-a-date-valentines-day

I wanted to share a checklist with makeup tips for you, that might help before you go out on a date tomorrow or this coming weekend. Makeup is fun to do and can enhance your skin and facial features, but only with the right application and technique. It also helps to finish your look with the right wardrobe. For example, something like this pretty floral wrap dress from Pink Blush, would be great for Hearts Day. Whether you’ll be wearing makeup for the first time on your date or you’re trying a new look on Valentine’s day, here are some tips to help you with makeup application.

Avoid foundation with SPF

If you go out for a date night and are planning to take some pictures with flash, try to skip foundation with SPF so you don’t have the appearance of white-ish skin in photos. I like to use a good coverage foundation. Something that will give your skin a natural look and doesn’t feel heavy at all.

Less glossy lips

Use a matte or satin finish of lipstick to get a long-wearing lip that lasts throughout the day/night. A lipstick that is too creamy tends to come off easily and may transfer to your teeth (Problematic for when you say “Cheese!”) I also advise to limit the use of lip gloss. If you’d like to have a long-wearing lip application and smooth lips before applying lipstick, exfoliate your lips before applying those products. Here are some gorgeous colors of lipsticks that you can try.

Lash Out

Lashes are gorgeous! Even if you don’t wear eyeshadow, good lashes make your eyes flattering. If you are planning to use false lashes, I recommend natural false lashes that look like this. If you are comfortable applying individual lashes, that will be the best way to achieve natural looking lashes that don’t look fake. Let’s be honest though, many of us don’t have time to put on false lashes, especially when you have little kids or are always on the move. You can opt to use mascara with primer to volumize and lengthen your lashes as well.

Good Base

I never forget to apply moisturizer to my face before applying foundation. It makes such a big difference with the application and finish of your foundation. I like to massage my face for a few seconds with moisturizer first. Make sure you choose a moisturizer that is lightweight and non-greasy.

Keep it simple

Keep your makeup simple and clean; no glitters, not too much contouring, nor excessive powder layered on your foundation. Don’t use mirrors with magnifiers to check your makeup because obviously it will just show all the imperfection of your skin. It’s better using a normal mirror and looking from a distance showing your whole face and neck.

hello island mama x pink blush valentines day hero

Do you ever use “xoxo” at the end of your emails or messages? I barely use it, but I thought it’d be cute to use for this Valentine’s Day banner decoration. I used this banner in my previous blog post titled Cultural Differences (When filipina meets Kano). I added my kids on that post’s images as cupids! This banner is now hanging on my workspace to get into the Valentine’s Day spirit! Today, I wanted to share this easy and cute “xoxo” banner, that is a perfect addition for your decorations. Whether it’s for a Valentine’s Day party with friends, or to surprise the special person you love, it’ll add a nice touch to your decor. Scroll down for a FREE printable!

Materials:

Printer

Colored Pink Paper (Dark and light)

Scissors

Style of string you prefer

Tape

First, download this free printable of XOXO letters and print it. You may print as many as needed depending on how long you want your banner to be. Cut out the letters. Tape string behind the tops of the letters, to connect them. Leave some slack between each letter so that when you hang them, they won’t overlap. If you want your banner to have a more rigid design, paste the letters on top of cardboard and cut them out again. That’s it! It’s so easy and fun to make for your upcoming Valentine’s Day.

3 Favorite Hairstyling Hacks For Busy Moms

3 favorite hairstyling hacks for busy moms

Ponytail and bunny hairstyles are my everyday hairstyles, as a mom of two toddlers and a baby. They’re quick to do and don’t bother me and my baby during nursing time. I honestly don’t give any effort to my hair sometimes. I prefer to use my limited time to do my makeup first, when I go out. However, I found some hairstyling hacks that totally helped me as a busy mom. That is why today, I wanted to share 3 of my favorite hairstyling hacks that I’ve been using lately. Have you tried any of these?

3 favorite hairstyling hacks for busy moms 2

Double Ponytail

Use this hack to make your hair look full or longer, by dividing your hair into a double ponytail. You can adjust the bottom of the ponytail depending on how long you want your hair to look.

Spray Bobby Pins

Use a hairspray/dry shampoo to spray bobby pins, before styling and using it on your hair. This makes the pins sticky and allows for a good grip, keeping them in place in your hair.

Puff It Up

Use a pen, pencil, or chopstick to puff up the top of your hair for some volume. Then, use hairspray to set it.

It sounds simple, but these hacks totally make a difference! Hope everyone has a great weekend.

By the way, make sure to follow me on Instagram to watch my makeup tutorial/tips every Monday. On Thursdays, have fun watching fellow moms take over my Insta story! So many fun things are happening this month! See you all!

Nursing in Public

nursing in public pink blush dress 2a

When I gave birth to my first son, I wasn’t comfortable nursing in public, even more so if there were a lot of people around me (especially men). I felt self-conscious and nervous, but I learned to overcome these feelings with some help from my friends, who are fellow moms. I saw how they did it and followed some of their tips about nursing in public. Today, I want to share some of these tips that I’ve learned.

Prepare ahead of time.

If I go out and I know that I will need to nurse my baby, I prepare everything inside my diaper bag beforehand. This includes my nursing cover and burping cloth. That way, when I nurse him I can just grab my bag beside me and get the things I need during feeding time.

Wear something easy to breastfeed in.

This is very helpful and makes breastfeeding sessions easy. There are a few styles you can wear which include: v-necklines, loose shirts, or shirts with built-in bras. I mostly love wearing a wrap front v-neckline with stretchy fabric, like this black wrap dress from Pink Blush. It can be worn as a maternity dress too. It makes it easy for me and my baby because I can just drag down the front cover when I need to breastfeed.

Wear an easy-access bra.

I like to use either a bra with removable cups with a hook, or sports bras. It depends on what kind of outfit I’m wearing for the day.

Use a nursing cover.

I’ve been using a multi-purpose nursing cover for my newborn this time around. I mentioned it here in a previous blog post. I like to use this cover often, but if I’m outdoors in the Texan weather, I try not to cover my baby’s whole body.

Pick a spot.

All babies are different. My eldest son didn’t want to feed when there was noise around him. On the other hand, my other two sons were fine with it. Finding a place to sit and support your back is also important while nursing a baby. If I’m at church, I use my nursing cover, but if my little one starts to fuss, I bring him to the nursing room. It’s more comfortable and easy to feed there for me.

Comfy pregnancy look + life being a mom of all boys

comfy pregnancy look + life being a mom of all boys (4) comfy pregnancy look + life being a mom of all boys (5)

comfy pregnancy look + life being a mom of all boys (2)

It’s FRIDAY!! Happy mom here! Today, I want to share a glimpse of life being a mom of all boys. I think I’ve heard, “Oh boy! (with pity face..)” a hundred times after I started to share that my third baby is another boy. 😉 When people were asking me about what I’m having, most of them were supportive. Although, a few people were giving me weird comments like, “Why is it not a girl? It should be a girl!” These were coming from strangers in the grocery store. 😉 Being a mom of all boys can sound tiring, crazy, you name it, but I always believe it is how you discipline them. It is important to have a good relationship with your children because in the end, their gender will not matter. What will matter is how you mold them, so that they grow to be good people and followers of Christ.

After my second child was born, I thought my husband and I were done having children. However, after seeing my boys and how much they love to play and laugh together (And yes, arguing with each other, and then playing and laughing again… Oh boy…), I felt that I was not yet done. I told my husband I wanted another child, not just because I wanted to try for a girl, but because I really wanted to have at least 3 kids. Even though I would love to have a girl, I’m very thankful to God that he gave me another chance to get pregnant. It took a long time for me to convince my husband, which I totally understand, since we had a hard time with our son’s reflux before (and I’ve experienced depression which I think it was “D-MER“). However, I realized that I was missing the most important tool in my life. That’s why I stopped telling my husband that I wanted another child, and instead, I began to pray for it. And then it happened! God blessed us with another child!

So what’s the life of being a mom to 2 boys like so far? Let me tell you, they are rough, active, loud, you name it. They can also be the sweetest and greatest helpers as well! Here are a few other things about them!

  • They like heroes and dress-up, wearing capes, putting shirts around their faces to be like ninjas (their Tito Nicoy taught about it)
  • They love to jump everywhere, which is why it’s a good thing we have an indoor trampoline!
  • Creating mess is the most fun thing for them to do, but thankfully my husband and I trained them to clean up their own mess.
  • They are sweet to girls!
  • They like to pretend being a hero or a policeman chasing “bad people.”
  • They love books that show giant bears, heroes, construction trucks, and fire trucks
  • They are fascinated with garbage trucks.
  • They eat A LOT and always say they are hungry. People might think I’m starving them…

This has been a time where I’ve been experiencing lots of braxton hicks, especially at night. The tiring part is when I wake up around 3AM because of it. After waking up, it’s hard to go back to sleep. This is probably a good thing that may be an advantage for me. In a way, it’s helping me get ready for the newborn, and having to wake up to feed him. My doctor told me to drink lots of water whenever I experience frequent braxton hicks. My husband also told me to rest and stop making myself tired by doing things like cleaning… But who doesn’t like to have a clean house right? 😉

Over the weekend, we brought the kids around the neighborhood to let them run around before bedtime. I also got some beautiful baby bump shots, while wearing this pretty dress and fitted maternity floral skirt, from Pink Blush. I love how you can wear their clothes even when you’re not pregnant. They have sizes in maternity plus too. If you check out their site, you can see that there are plenty of selections from tops, to dresses, robes, and even accessories. They have a variety of choices to wear, whether it’s for a baby shower look, maternity shoot, or for your daily outfit. You can wear them outside and they make it easy to nurse your baby. Here’s the link to shop for their great clothes!

My Summer Maternity Shoot

First of all, I want to thank my husband, Brent for taking these images. I think he’s now accepting that his life married to me involves pictures and photoshoots. 😉 It’s good to have someone to take pictures of you outside. It allows you to have different backgrounds, but if you like the indoors, and the husband is not available, check out my post: “Taking photos of your own baby bump.” I have some tips there on how I take pictures of myself inside, using a tripod.
As I turned 36 weeks pregnant, I feel that I’m getting close to the finale! Things have been busy preparing for my new son’s arrival. We’ve been washing new clothes that we received from my baby shower, preparing a bassinet, and washing breast pump bottles and extra bottles (so Brent can also feed the baby so I can sleep). I also started to prepare a hospital bag and started to put the things I need for my little one and myself. I’d love to hear what you need in a hospital bag. I feel like I’m missing something!
